Game Recap: 12U
Unfortunately the Woodland Hills 12's All-Star run came to an end last night with a 10-0 loss to Sherman Oaks in the championship round of the District 40 All- Star Tournament. A tough 2nd inning saw Sherman Oaks pull away for the eventual victory. The 12's never gave up and played hard until the end showing how the game of baseball should be played regardless of what the scoreboard showed. Sparkling defensive plays were made inning after inning as Sunrise battled through every pitch. As a manger I am extrmely proud of each player on this team, how hard they worked, how much they cared and the efforts they put forth. 2019 was the first championship appearance for Sunrise Woodland Hills All-Star baseball in 12 years and I want to recognize each player:

Doubles by Ryan Montoure and Vince Venia along with a single by Jacob Pazzo were the offensive highlights of the game for Woodland Hills. Game Recap: 11U
Saturday 7/6/19: The Woodland Hills 11u All-Stars finished this years tournament today with a convincing 9-0 win over Canyon Country. They got things going with a 5 run two-out rally in the first inning with Nihaan Kothari, Alex Grayson, Owen Lewis, Ryan Hauptman, and Max Aguirre crossing the plate. Alex Stanichev, Aguirre and Lewis collected RBIs on the day. Grayson doubled and scored twice, Lewis tripled and scored twice and Aguirre doubled and scored 3 times to provide more than enough offense to support the pitching effort by Hauptman. Hauptman took care of duties on the mound throwing a complete game shut-out and taking a no-hitter into the final out of the game. We're all very proud of this team for all of the work and hard fought battles this all-star tournament season.
Saturday 6/29/19: In a game of ups and downs, the 11u all-stars played great against Encino LL on Saturday. Our hitting work paid dividends as we jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. But it was short lived as Encino scored 3 in the bottom of first and 5 in the bottom of the second. Woodland Hills tightened things up to finish the game and came back in the 5th with four runs driven by a single by Jordan Lindsay, a fielder's choice by Owen Lewis and an error on a ball put in play by Ryan Stratton. Nihaan Kothari led Woodland Hills going 3 for 4 at the plate with an RBI. Lindsay (2), Lewis and Stratton also collected RBIs tying the game going into the 6th. Encino strung together enough to collect the game winning hit in the bottom of the 6th to seal it 10-9. The 11s should be extremely proud of their effort against an always formidable Encino squad! We will have a final game Sat 7/6 at 12:00 vs Canyon Country.
Saturday 6/22/19: Our 11u all-stars opened the tournament against the host Northridge team. The evenly matched teams remained scoreless early until Northridge scored 2 in the third inning. We bounced back with 1 in the top of the fourth on a Ryan Stratton double, scoring Max Aguirre who had doubled after Nihaan Kothari singled him to third. Max Aguirre and Nihaan Kothari led Woodland Hills with two hits and Ryan Stratton added that RBI double. Vince Alfaro led both teams with 6 strikeouts and Max Aguirre followed, both with excellent pitching but our offence didn't produce any more runs. The game lines were nearly identical but ultimately Northridge prevailed in a very close baseball game...3-1. Next up for Woodland Hills 11s is Encino next Saturday, 6/29 9:00am.
Game Recap: 10U
Sunday 7/7/19: The Woodland Hills 10u All-Star's season came to an end today by a 7-4 defeat at the hands of the Sherman Oaks 10u All-Stars. The Woodland Hills All-Stars have a lot to be proud of. They all bounced back and played with heart and pride today after a tough game Saturday. They were led by team leaders Anthony Medina & Nathan Galvez who always lead by being good examples and hard workers at both practice & in games. Our outfield of Toby Luce, Dylan Morquecho, and Lloyd Gaynor each made nice catches. We got excellent pitching from Angel Valenzuela and Leo Barrial. Both pitchers kept their team in the game providing them with a chance to win. The offense had chances to really put some heat on the Sherman Oaks pitchers but when it was all said and done the 10u team just couldn't get a big timely hit to crack open the game. Woodland Hills should be proud and I know this group will be hungrier and ready for next year! Huge thank you to Coaches Alex, Chris, Danny, Eric, Ken, and Dustin for their endless support and their tireless efforts. The team really learned a lot from each of you in a short time. Lastly thank you to all the families for putting their summer plans on hold and taking this journey with us.
Saturday 7/6/19: The 10u All-Star team lost to Northridge All-stars 10-0. Today both the bats and gloves were not where they needed to be. Despite the score...highlights were Blake Dubin and Aiden Martinez’s pitching. A standout play was when Lloyd Gaynor made a great catch on a deep high fly ball to left. The team will play again tomorrow at 9:30am vs Sherman Oaks.
Saturday 6/29/19: The Woodland Hills 10u All-Stars beat the Encino All-Stars today 15-5. Woodland Hills got exceptional pitching from Angel Valenzuela, Blake Dubin, and Leo Barrial. When Encino hit the ball or got runners on base Woodland Hill's defense stepped up to create outs. Catcher Nathan Galvez not only collected 3 hits but also threw a base runner out at second base trying to steal. It was a beautiful throw perfectly placed for an easy tag by Leo Barrial. Other defensives stars were RJ Mozian, Toby Luce, and Casey Kaufman…each making multiple defensive outs. Woodland Hills also really hit the ball hard. Many players had more than one hit. Aiden Martinez, Blake Dubin, Nathan Galvez, Toby Luce, Angel Valenzuela, Oscar Vasquez all mashed today but the biggest hit came from Ryder Risty who absolutely destroyed a pitch to deeeeep left field. The whole team played their hearts out and their coaches are incredibly proud of them. The 10u All-Stars will be playing Northridge All-Stars at 9:30am 7/6 at Northridge Little League.
Sunday 6/23/19: The Woodland Hills 10u All-Stars were victorious against Granda Hills 21-2. Starting pitcher Angel Venezuela pitched 2 amazing innings before Leo Barrial came in to close the door in the 3rd inning by inducing an amazing double play. Shortstop Aiden Martinez fielded a hard line drive…quickly stepped on second base…and then fired home where catcher Ryder Risty who caught and tagged out the runner completing the double play. Two pitches later Leo got the final batter to pop up to Casey Kaufman at first base to end the game. There were too many stand outs to list day. All the kids performed well. The 10u team will play Encino this coming Saturday at 9:30.
